‘Jesus, Jesus, you make the darkness tremble.’
The world can feel like a scary place. It’s easy to get lost in sadness with the dark realities of poverty, famine, and war. In your personal life, you may be struggling with these firsthand – you lost your job and you’re not sure how to support your family; your parents just announced they’re getting divorced; or you’re wondering how to handle the death of a loved one. Even when your circumstances cannot be changed, Jesus is the strength and hope to get us through. Peace is a way-maker in trials, but how do you find peace in the midst of suffering?
Luke 1:78-79 tells us: “God’s mercy will shine on those living in darkness and…guide our feet to the path of peace.” We are reminded that even in our deepest moments of sorrow, God’s mercy is strong enough to permeate the darkness and guide us into peace. When you feel confronted with darkness inside of you, remember that God’s light is bright and strong enough to illuminate every corner of the night.
Psalm 97:4 says, “His lightning lights up the world. The earth sees and trembles.” All of the fear and darkness we might feel within us surrenders to Him. Nothing is hidden from the sight of God and thus nothing is hidden from the might of Jesus, His son. There is no power on earth that does not tremble at His name, or that is beyond His reach. Call on the name of Jesus and believe that He will guide you to peace no matter what you are going through!
